- Knee Orthotics: Giving Back Stability ~ Jun 14, 2012Our knees are vital to our lifestyle, whether we are exercising, working on our feet or walking from the office to our car. The knee joint is the largest joint in the body, is very complicated and supports practically all of our body weight. Needless to say, an injury or an arthritis or osteoarthritis diagnosis to either knee or the muscles, ligaments or tendons connecting to them can be detrimental to our overall health.
In the event that the ligaments or cartilage in and around your knee become damaged, a knee orthotic can be used to prevent flexion or extension instability or to stabilize the knee in general. This will allow the knee to heal correctly in the right alignment, which allows for a return to the mobility you had before the injury.
However, knee orthotics can also be helpful if you develop arthritis in your knee. Whether it’s rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis or post-traumatic arthritis, a knee orthotics can be used to help the pain by taking some of the load off of the knee. However, they cannot be used as a cure or treatment for an injury or disease by itself. It must be used in conjunction with drugs, physical therapy or surgery to have the proper effect on your knee.
Your knees are perhaps the most important joint in your body, and you cannot afford to take chances when it comes to dealing with the pain. The ability of our patients to regain their mobility correctly and efficiently is the main goal of our orthotics. Our practitioners can create the right custom fit orthotic for you, and will do so in a professional and timely manner. At Clark and Associates, we want to get you the right orthotic equipment you need to help get your treatment on the right track. If you have suffered an injury that has compromised the integrity of your knee, call us today and see how we can assist you with your orthotic needs.
